Kick Shuttlecock
Today, Mallory and I went to field at Rocky Grove. We chose to teach kick shuttlecock and pington, they're two sports that can be played on a badminton court. The first class we taught hated both games but the second class was much better. The second class actually really enjoyed playing kick shuttlecock. This game is similar to hacky sack. You play on a badminton court and you are allowed three people per side. Each side is allowed four successive kicks/hits and each player is allowed two consecutive kick/hits. The game is played to 21 and you use rally scoring. There is actually a special shuttlecock made for the game but we just used hacky sacks. Technically, you are not allowed to use your hands but we modified it that you could use a flat hand to hit the ball, it made it easier and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun. I think that that first class was very negative from the time they walked into the class until they left. If we would have given them more challenges or switched up the game in some sort of way, the lesson would have been more successful with this class. Maybe even switch the teams up or switch corts to get the moving around more and not stationary. Keep them motivated and more positive. The second class was more positive and cooperated well with the students as well as us. Simple changes for each classroom atmosphere of students will help us in the future decide how we run a class.
