CrossFit

My parnter and I have been working on our 352 Unit Plan for a couple of days now and we're starting to run out of ideas.  We chose CrossFit as our unit and we want to keep the activities fun and interesting but also have it be a quality workout for a high school physical education class to do.  Does anyone have any interesting ideas or fun workouts they do for crossfit?  We've been setting up most of our lessons as stations but we want to switch it up and have something that the whole class can do together.  I guess we're looking for a crossfit game or team activity.  If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!

Sportsmanship

I've just finished reading an article about Ricardo Portillo, the referee that died after being in a coma for a week caused by a punch to the face from a player that he gave a yellow card to.  Reading all of these articles really angers me, just one person that shows a lack of sportmanship gives the whole sport and its athletes a bad reputation.  Sports are suppose to be a fun way to exercise.  Is there something that we can do to teach athletes and our future students more about sportsmanship?
I hope to be a basketball coach one day and I don't want any of my players to act like this.  There is no reason to get angry enough to attack someone, referee or player, because of a game.  I love sports as much as everyone else but I think there is way to much violence in them nowadays, there is a difference between being agressive and being violent.
It's sad that someone had to lose their life because of a loss of control.  Do you all think that there is a growing amount of violence in sports?  Do you think sports video games or professional sports have an influence over the amount of violence?  Remember that this man was refing a recreational league game of teenagers.  The attacker was a 17 year old male.
As a future physical educator I think that it is important that we include etiquette and sportsmanship into our lessons.  I'd love to hear the rest of your thoughts.

Last Week of Classes

We're finally down to the last week of classes!  I'm so excited and ready for summer.  Too bad that I'll be doing nothing but homework this week, I'll be so happy when I'm finally done with everything.  This warm weather that we've been having isn't making it very easy for me to sit on my computer and get work done though.
My plan for this past weekend was to sit down and get a lot of work done, that was a bit unsuccessful.  It was so nice out that I had to enjoy the day.  I was able to get some things done in the mornings.  I guess I can't complain though, I enjoyed fishing and playing lawn games all weekend.  Unfortunately, I didn't catch anything other than algae.  I did win at cornhole a few times though!  Now I need to catch up and finish up all my work for this last week of classes.

Kick Shuttlecock

Today, Mallory and I went to field at Rocky Grove.  We chose to teach kick shuttlecock and pington, they're two sports that can be played on a badminton court.  The first class we taught hated both games but the second class was much better.  The second class actually really enjoyed playing kick shuttlecock.  This game is similar to hacky sack.  You play on a badminton court and you are allowed three people per side.  Each side is allowed four successive kicks/hits and each player is allowed two consecutive kick/hits. The game is played to 21 and you use rally scoring.  There is actually a special shuttlecock made for the game but we just used hacky sacks.  Technically, you are not allowed to use your hands but we modified it that you could use a flat hand to hit the ball, it made it easier and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun.  You'll all have to check it out, it's also called Jianzi.
